Description: This one-hour program is intended for professional designers and engineers. The attributes of precast concrete will be presented, demonstrating how these qualities may be applied to the design and construction of safe and efficient storm shelter facilities. The versatility and resiliency of precast concrete will be further highlighted by a video demonstration, and a series of case studies.

Learning Objectives:

  • 1.    Introduce the requirements for a FEMA P-361 Storm Shelter
  • 2.    Identify the components of a precast concrete structure
  • 3.    Discuss precast concrete characteristics and advantages
  • 4.    Compare materials and their utility and sustainable benefits

Speaker Bio: Paul Todd holds Bachelor of Science in Architectural Studies and Master of Architecture degrees from the University of Illinois.  He has thirty-six years of experience in residential, governmental, and commercial projects, involving both new construction and rehabilitation of historic structures, including: over four million square feet of total precast concrete structures, the first LEED™-certified office building in Colorado, and the first total-precast concrete LEED™-certified structure in the country. 

He is a licensed architect and LEED™-accredited professional.
